Uri The Surgical Strike Box Office Collection Day 1: Vicky Kaushal’s Film Opens High On Josh

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Uri: The Surgical Strike features Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam, Paresh Rawal and Kirti Kulhari in pivotal roles. The war drama was off to a flying start at the box office.

It is no secret that films high on patriotism strike gold at the box office, and filmmaker Aditya Dhar tries to cash in on the same. Uri: The Surgical Strike is based on the surgical strikes carried out by the Indian Army on seven terrorist launchpads across the Line of Control on September 29, 2016, in retaliation to a terrorist attack on an army camp at Uri earlier that month.

Uri: The Surgical Strike, which features Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam, Paresh Rawal and Kirti Kulhari in key roles, has managed to impress the critics. The audience, too, flocked to the theatres to watch it. The war drama was off to a roaring start and earned Rs 8.20 crore on its opening day.

India Today critic Lakshana Palat gave Uri: The Surgical Strike a rating of 3 stars out of 5. “Keeping the affiliations of Uri the film aside (which is a task in itself), it is a decent film for most parts. The first half is far more gripping than the second. Post intermission, the makers themselves seem over-excited, to the point of losing control of the narrative,” she wrote in her review.

Vicky, in an interview with IANS, called the surgical strikes “something we all are proud of”. He also refuted allegations that it glorified the ruling party and said, “Aditya Dhar, the director and writer of the film, is very passionate about army, and he has made this film as a tribute to the army and nobody else.

Uri: The Surgical Strike released on the same day as Vijay Ratnakar Gutte’s The Accidental Prime Minister, which chronicles the tenure of former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh in office. In the box office battle, Uri: The Surgical Strike seems to have emerged victorious over the Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna-starrer, so far.

Both films are expected to pick up over the weekend. However, it remains to be seen if The Accidental Prime Minister overtakes Uri: The Surgical Strike at the box office.
